When Janet fibs to her highbrow friend, Christobel, that she belongs to a book group, Viv, Libby and Zelda are keen to form one. Why not, when they all love reading? Libby is particularly enthusiastic. It will be great to discuss books over a glass of wine or two, and fun to match the wine with the book they’re reading.
Libby’s choice:
A delicious white wine from Greece called Malagousia – would go well with Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. ‘It’s made from grapes grown on Mount Olympus.’
Viv’s choice:
A smooth red Chilean Malbec from South America would be the perfect accompaniment to Isabel Allende’s House of Spirits.
Zelda’s choice:
Dorset Cider when they’re discussing Far From the Madding Crowd. A shot of vodka to go with Anna Karenina . . .
Janet’s choice.
A glass of French Bordeaux, to go with Gillian Harvey’s The Bordeaux Book Club.
It’s a fun discussion till Janet says that Christobel doesn’t really approve of drinking . . .
