Now that Christmas is over, I’m hoping you’re ready to read something that’s just a little different.
As an author, I’m always asked about my stories and especially about where they’re set and this story, The One Night Stand like all of my other books, is set in the Northeast of England. A little more north that where I currently live and set in Bamburgh where I often go for holidays.
For me, this coastline has a fascinating darkness. It can be beautiful and moody, all at once. The people are fabulous, and I can honestly say, the sunsets in Northumberland are amongst the best I’ve seen. As well as the coastline, my inspiration came from two houses I’d been to while writing this book.
The first, was Pipistrelle Cottage, a holiday home in Bamburgh that overlooks Budle bay. It has Lindisfarne in the distance, a view of Bamburgh Castle from the patio and sunsets that would stay in your memory forever.
The second house was a house I went to on business. For my day job, I’m a Sales Director and as a part of my job, I plan, design and refit offices. During one of these refits, I was invited to a customer’s house, which I have to admit was mind-blowing. It had marble floors, a sunken wine cellar in the hallway and a garage that stored at least twenty cars, just for show. The house was absolutely stunning, but also completely ostentatious and all I could think about was what kind of people got to live there and did a house like that make them happy?
It was after going to both of these houses that the heroine of my story, Daisy was born.
Daisy is a beautiful, independent woman. She has a husband who loves her. A husband who runs his own business and can quite easily give her anything she needs but is it all that she wants… One wrong choice that she can never take back… turns her life upside down in a way she could have never predicted.
I really hope you love this book as much as I do and if you get the chance to go to Bamburgh, maybe stay at Pipistrelle Cottage, you won’t regret it!
