But the war is never far behind. As air raids reach the docks of Falmouth and Eileen takes up fire-watching duty once more, the past refuses to loosen its hold - her husband’s memory shadowing every step.

Then she meets Captain Andrew Harvey, a man marked by loss, whose quiet strength begins to break through her sorrow. As danger closes in and old loyalties pull tight, Eileen must decide: can she open her heart again, or will grief keep her bound to what she’s lost?

Elaine Johns inherited her love of reading fiction from her Irish mother and a passion for writing was the happy result. She was born in Belfast and came to London to attend the Italia Conti Performing Arts Academy. She has been a jazz singer, and a print and television journalist in Bahrain. Elaine has published several contemporary women’s fiction novels and writes wartime historical fiction for award-winning publisher Boldwood Books.
