Perhaps every writer dreams of seeing her or his work produced on film. I love to imagine who’d play the major roles in my novels if they were made into films.
At Edinburgh Uni in their library, I haunted the mysteriously (to me) named ‘stacks’ and read twentieth century Eng Lit, although I was supposed to be studying Arabic.
Up there with the most memorable events is the day I got my very own library card. It was a little cardboard square, later to be laminated, and I treasured it like it was a ten pound note.
My love of reading was nurtured from an early age by our local libraries. Some of the books I read in childhood were gifts, some were read in school but most came from the library.
Literature is full of enchanted doors that take us to a secret place, a place full of mystery and magic, suspension of disbelief and wonder. As is your library…
