Three’s a Crowd by Christy McKellen is a steamy romance read set during the Cannes Film Festival, out today! Click to read for 99p 🎬

The Cannes Film Festival is one of those “another-world” type of events that I’d had on my bucket list for a very long time. Being a film buff since my early teens, I’ve always been fascinated by the filmmaking scene, so I was really excited when my partner and I, plus a good friend of ours who was working for the British Film Institute, made plans to attend it a few years ago.

The atmosphere there was electric, full of the glamour and promise I’d anticipated and it was so exciting to see actual real live film stars just hanging out in cafes in the sunshine. My partner phoned me at one point to tell me he had a “twenty on Bean”. Sean Bean. I’m a massive fan so had to do a surreptitious stroll-by to check out the café where he was sitting. Take it from me, he’s just as charismatic in real life.

Then one night, after watching a Ewan McGregor film (and spotting him afterwards) at one of the festival cinemas, we were too buzzed to sleep so we went on an adventure to Monaco, to the famous Monte Carlo casino, just like my characters Daisy and Zach do. As you can see from the pictures, it’s quite the impressive place, but just like Daisy, I wasn’t exactly dressed for it! Luckily, they still let us in, and while we didn’t have the same luck as Daisy did there, we had an amazing time, living vicariously by watching the players on the roulette and blackjack tables coolly placing their eye-wateringly high-value chips down.

So, whilst writing Three’s A Crowd, it’s been wonderful reliving my experiences there through the eyes of Daisy—though unlike her I didn’t get to do it all with a famous film star in tow. But hey, maybe next time?
