Jude Gray – Jude has known for a while that, in order to keep the farm out of the red, she must diversify and find a new way to bring in some funds. She decides to open up a campsite and we follow her journey as she finds two shepherd huts to renovate whilst simultaneously planning for the electrics and plumbing as well as tending to her sheep and looking after farm life. The last thing Jude needs is more drama in her life, which is terrible luck as that is exactly what is heading her way.

Lucy Berban – Jude’s sister Lucy, along with her young son Sebbie, has moved into Malvern Farm on a more permanent basis. Sebbie has hit the toddler tantrum stage and flits between the funny, sweet little boy everyone knows and loves, and a screaming, beetroot faced terror that tests even his adoring mother. Lucy is patient with him but finds her new job at the care home a wonderful respite as she loves spending time with family friend Granny Margot and all the other residents at Perrins House.

DS Binnie Khatri – The friendship that began during a time of high stress for both Binnie and Jude has now had a chance to develop and blossom into something they both cherish. Binnie is a regular visitor to the farm and enjoys a night out now and again with both Jude and Lucy.

Des Smith – Newcomer to the village of Malvern End and not welcome by most of the residents, Des Smith is a ruthless businessman who has left the Home Counties behind but has no intention of shaking his townie ways in order to fit into a rural way of life.
Loretta Smith – Although Des has made the wrong kind of splash in the village, his wife Loretta couldn’t be more different. She is always the first to offer help when it comes to cake baking for the local WI or organising charity events at The Lamb and she has become a firm favourite up at Malvern Farm.

Marco Ricci – A breath of fresh air on the farm, Marco arrives in his ancient car with nothing more than a sleeping bag, his art supplies and a few possessions. He wants a place to stay so he can put together a series of paintings of the hills and Jude is only too happy to accept his offer of help fixing up the shepherd huts in return for free lodgings in one of the huts. As well as being handy with a hammer and paintbrush, Marco is also the first person since Jude’s husband died who has stirred feelings within her; and Jude isn’t quite sure what to do about it.
