Imagine for a moment, your husband leaves you. Then through a bizarre twist of events, you find yourself working with the girl he’s left you for. Even worse, she’s pregnant…
But Louisa isn’t the kind of girl who stays down for long. One door may have been slammed very abruptly shut, but it isn’t long before others begin to open, in the form of new friendships, work and a new home. The love of her life clearly wasn’t the man she thought he was, but maybe somewhere out there is someone straightforward, who isn’t remotely messed up. Now there’s a thought – though does such a man even exist?
It’s how it goes, I think. Ends-of-eras are usually about beginnings – and with change inevitably comes challenge. I remind myself of this often, because it can be easier to stick with what you know, rather than take that leap of faith into the unknown. And while it might not feel like it at the time, life has the strangest way of leading us to where we’re meant to be.
This book was a joy to write, not least because Louisa is feisty and fiercely loyal! I do love a strong woman! As she works out what’s important in her life, she surprises herself along the way. She also has a mad dog, Elmer, a flatcoat retriever. The story is set in a busy vet practice near a small village in the Surrey countryside, where work often gets in the way of life, but where there’s a wonderful camaraderie – at least, most of the time, with characters galore.
I wanted The Impossible Search for the Perfect Man to make you laugh out loud, and maybe shed a tear along the way, but leave you smiling and with a warm feeling, a reminder that even when everything seems pitched against you, there is always hope.
Elmer is inspired by our very own dear Ella, who sadly is no longer with us but left her doggie pawprint in all our hearts. If you’re an animal lover, I think you’ll enjoy this book. And if not, it’ll probably explain why so many of us are.
Thank you, to all of you, dear readers. I hope you enjoy it! x
