Ralph – Wagging Tails Dogs’ Home Resident Dog

Stray dogs handed to the dog warden are taken to the local pound. Once there they have seven days of waiting and hoping for their owner to come forward to claim them. If they are not claimed the dog warden will try to find a rescue centre who have the space to take them. Heartbreakingly, if the dog isn’t able to be placed, they are euthanised.

Some dogs taken by the rescue centres are soon found to be unable to be re-homed. There is a multitude of reasons for this. Sometimes, due to the mistreatment they have endured, they are too terrified of people or other dogs and unfortunately they have become reactive. If this is the case, then the dog home will not be able to rehome them and they become the home’s resident dogs.

This is the case for Ralph, the gorgeous staffie at Wagging Tails Dogs’ Home. He is loving and a bundle of joy to the staff and volunteers at Wagging Tails but due to his history, he will never be able to be re-homed because when it comes to other dogs, his first reaction is fight rather than flight.

The Beautiful Ralph:

History:

Found as a stray by the dog warden and subsequently rescued on his seventh day at the pound by Wagging Tails.

Although his true history is unknown due to him being found as a stray, he is absolutely terrified of other dogs and therefore very reactive towards them. It is due to this that Flora believes he may have been used in dog-fighting.

Likes:

Ralph lives for his late night and early morning walks to West Par beach. At these times the small cove is desolate and so he is able to enjoy the sand beneath his paws and the sounds of the ocean without worrying about other dogs sneaking up on him. He is grateful to Flora and Ginny who will often pop back to Wagging Tails during the night or arrive super early so he gets to experience his favourite place in perfect peace.

He also loves fusses from the humans he loves and trusts and his new obsession is the Wobble Ball that Sally bought him.

Dislikes:

He doesn’t like other dogs, they terrify him. He also doesn’t particularly like carrots! Although Flora has tried many times to offer him a raw carrot to chomp on!
