Dear Readers,

And you are! Very dear! I would like to introduce you to book two in the Forrester Detective Agency series, Fatal Lies.

Fatal Secrets (book one) left us knowing who had murdered Dave Forrester, and now time has moved on. Dave’s son Matt has built up the business left to him by his father, and his friend Steve Rowlands has officially joined him in the business.

The office has gone through a serious makeover and boasts separate offices for Matt and Steve, with a designated reception area that they plan to service between them.

Until, that is, Carol Flynn arrives on the scene. She chooses them to be her new employers, and she brings humour, organisational skills, knowledge of many things, and certain other previous job issues that are not allowed to be mentioned.

They regard her as their very own Mary Poppins, and she brings the additional skill of scone maker into their working lives as a welcome bonus.

She is definitely at Forrester’s to stay, unless some crazy client bumps her off. Do they try? You may have to buy the book to find out.

This is a book where relationships are cemented, forged and banished – the who, why and wherefore will all be revealed as the book reaches its endgame.

And all of this is set in Sheffield, city of Steel and Football. And Meadowhall. I have tried to stay true to locations, with the occasional foray over the border into the Peak District. A little bit of history for you – the shop that is now the Forrester Agency is an actual shop. It is about twenty paces away from a pub called The Red Lion, at Gleadless. That pub was built on the dividing line between Yorkshire and Derbyshire, with the Tap Room being in Yorkshire, and the Best Bar situated in Derbyshire. Yorkshire licensing laws said they had to close at 10 pm, Derbyshire’s said 10.30 pm. Guess what happened at 10 pm every night! Fortunately, Sheffield City Council bought a large swathe of Derbyshire bringing the pub under Sheffield rules (I believe this was in the seventies), and the mass exodus from the Tap Room to the Best Bar ceased.

So that is Fatal Lies. Does it have heart-stopping moments where you say ‘Oh no’? You bet your life it does.

Enjoy!

With best wishes,

Anita xxx
