Son of Mercia begins our journey with young Icel, the boy who wants to become a healer, but is left with little choice but to take up his seax. This is the story of how he begins to become the warrior we all know he will be one day, as Mercia becomes threatened by King Ecgberht of Wessex.
In Wolf of Mercia, poor Icel finds himself locked up tight behind enemy lines when King Wiglaf of Mercia (now king once more) intends to take back Londonia (Lundenwic and Londonium) from King Ecgberht of Wessex. And what’s worse? Poor Icel must not only escape. He must also then find his way back inside.
In Warrior of Mercia, Icel discovers that Mercia has more enemies than just Wessex. The king of the East Angles, the king-slayer, is threatened. Should Mercia ally with him? Should Mercia leave that kingdom to be ravaged by Viking raiders?
Eagle of Mercia finds Icel fully coming into himself as a warrior and a man who takes his oaths seriously, once more in enemy territory, venturing even further into Wessex to retrieve a lost ally stolen away by the Viking raiders. Taking on the might of the Viking raiders, and the Wessex warriors, can Icel and his allies survive to return to Mercia?
