This month Boldwood Books celebrates its fourth birthday, and I am one of the authors fortunate enough to have been with them since day one.
Over the past four years, we have published fourteen books together – and with many more to come, it’s nice to look back to where it all began: Honeymoon For One.
Honeymoon For One was an idea that had been lurking in my brain for a while, so when Boldwood wanted to publish it, I was over the moon. It tells the story of Lila, a rom-com novelist who, on her wedding day, finds out something about her husband-to-be that makes her not only call off the wedding but also decide to jet off on her honeymoon on her own. It’s hard, going to stay at San Valentino, the so-called ‘most romantic place on earth’, when you’re there all alone, and pretty much every activity at the resort is designed for couples (even the bikes have two seats!), but while she is there, Lila meets the mysterious Freddie, who is also staying there alone, hiding away from his real life too.
It’s one of my favourite books I’ve written, and publishing it with Boldwood really made it come to life. I love listening to the audiobook, and hearing their story being told back to me in such a creative way. I have such a brilliant narrator in Karen Cass.
Honeymoon For One was also my first book to be shortlisted for an RNA Award, which makes it even more special to me.
