Dear Reader,

It gives me tremendous pleasure to welcome you to Foxglove Hall, a place that has lived in my imagination and my heart for many years. It’s a place that feels real to me. I hope the characters and their stories will spring off the pages for you, remaining with you long after the series has ended.

It was my fascination with local history that inspired me to create the Foxglove Hall series, where every new book focuses on a different character’s story. Merthyr Tydfil is a place with a rich industrial past and where one of Wales’s first suffrage meetings took place in 1870.

The life upstairs and downstairs of Foxglove Hall is full of secrets, relationships and unexpected twists. As you enter its world, you will meet the wealthy Worthy family and the servants who keep the household running, including characters such as Dilly, who has become particularly dear to me, she features in the first book ‘The Housemaids of Foxglove Hall’.

The series follows women’s lives shaped by social change and the fight for women’s rights against the backdrop of the First World War.

As I write, I imagine walking through Foxglove Hall, eavesdropping on the servants’ conversations and witnessing the exploits of their mistress, Mrs Worthy, as she plans furtive meetings with a group of women.

So, pour yourself a cup of tea, settle down and come inside. I can’t wait for you to meet the folk of Foxglove Hall.

Warmest wishes,

Lynette Rees
