Frequently Asked Questions

What is "Under the Cover of Darkness" about?

The third gripping instalment in Michelle Dunne's instense County Cork Killings series. For fans of Jane Casey and Tana French.

Inspired by the author’s own experiences as an Irish infantry soldier and UN Peacekeeper.

Recruit. Soldier. Instructor. Peacekeeper… Killer.

Corporal Lindsey Ryan knew that her UN peacekeeping tour in South Lebanon would test her limits, but she never expected to become someone else entirely.

When Lindsey stumbles upon her superior, Sergeant Leo Horgan, brutally assaulting a local Lebanese woman, a split-second decision leaves him bleeding to death on a shop floor. Desperate to protect Aleena from her fiercely abusive husband and to save her own career, Lindsey and Aleena work together to ensure they can both walk away free – and alive.

But there’s a bigger picture that they know nothing about and now someone in her camp knows exactly what she did. Someone far more dangerous than she ever could have imagined.

Lindsey finds herself tormented by anonymous blackmail notes issuing terrifying ultimatums while living the reality of daily mortar attacks, enemy sabotage and the devasting loss of her brothers-in-arms…

Forced into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, not knowing who to trust, Lindsey has the fight of her life on her hands, in a war that the rest of the world knows nothing about.

Who wrote "Under the Cover of Darkness"?

"Under the Cover of Darkness" was written by Michelle Dunne.

Michelle Dunne is the author of a string of thrillers, including hard hitting bestseller, The Good Girl. But her career started with the Lindsey Ryan series which was inspired by her time as a soldier and UN Peacekeeper in the late nineties. Her work so far has been translated and optioned for television and when she’s not busy writing, Michelle is also the founder and organiser of The Spike Island Literary Festival – a crime themed festival on Ireland’s own Alcatraz. She also works on Dublin’s International crime festival, Murder One. But outside of her work in the book world, she’s a mother, a daughter, a wife and a friend. She drinks coffee like it’s going out of style and is an avid supporter of the local U/8 football team. Always happy to connect
